A stroll in Rustaveli Avenue & Freedom square in Tbilisi at Night

Head to Rustaveli Avenue, the central avenue in Tbilisi. The Georgian people named this place to show their love and respect to the medieval poet of Georgia, Shota Rustaveli. It was formerly known as Golovian street stretched over a length of 1.5kms from Freedom square to Kostava street. So best location to choose your hotel is also around Rustaveli Avenue.

A hungry you will not be a happy you, Kostava street have many Restaurants and bars including international fast food joints. We did the same, the food from our airline didn’t satisfied our appetite, so the first stop was McDonald.

The MC building itself is a beautiful view to enjoy. After more than 8 hours we finally had something proper to eat and our faces were lit and ready for the walk.

Maple leaves- Roof of the streets

What’s the perfect back drop for a peaceful country like Georgia? Maple leaves, its creating a beautiful roof for the entire street. I feels like it symbolizing the tolerance unity and peacefulness of the Georgians considering all the hardships they gone through to build and protect their nation.

The first night in Tbilisi went all well and it was enough for the day. Retired back to my hostel anticipating to explore the city and the best things to do in Tbilisi

Shop & Dine at Night

The night is still young and Tbilisi have more for you. Now its time to explore some new streets.

The best way to reach the nearby towns and streets are by Metro. Head to your nearest metro station and grab your metro card.

Tbilisi Metro

Look for the big M sign to spot the station.

Struggle a little bit on the recharge kiosk just to figure out how to change the language to English. Ha ha we actually struggled a bit. Once you are successful, then be ready to experience the Tbilisi underground metro system.

Metro Station Tbilisi
Escalator to the Metro Station

Swipe your card on the entry gate and let the escalator take you under the streets to your metro station. We boarded our first train from Rustaveli Metro station which is 60m under the street and an escalator 120m in length to take you there.  The metro is constructed during the soviet time. And our next stop was Marjansvili st.

Ready to treat yourself with a bit of shopping, a little exploration of local and international cuisines, and if needed a little bit of partying? Then the street of Marjansvili is the place for you. Metro station is right at he heart of the street.

It’s a very warm welcome by Marjanshvili st.  just outside the metro station. Enjoy the elegance and beauty of the buildings from the Soviet era. The streets and buildings are well illuminated too.

Marjanshvili at night

It’s the best place for wine and dine, but it’s easy to get confused with a lot of options in front of you. A wide variety of restaurants and bars are available all across the street including international fast food joints.

The Street

Streets are a little bit busy till midnight but are pedestrian-friendly too.

Even though be a little bit careful when you are at the main intersection.

If you like Turkish food then it’s a paradise for you as many of the restaurants here are specialized in Turkish cuisine.  You will also find Indian, Chinese, Italian and many more international and continental varieties on both sides of the streets. Big brands for the clothing and footwear also have their outlets here. In a mood to burn some hard-earned money? or just pass by with some window shopping only (Wise decision). The decision is yours.

This stretch of street in Tbilisi can be of help in different ways as many money exchange centers and airline booking offices and local tour operators also can be spotted here. The right spot to do some preparation for your next day adventures too. So it’s worth visiting here.

Not satisfied with what the streets have to offer? Even though don’t worry this place hides more gems for you.

Hangout with the youths of Tbilisi

If you really want to enjoy a Destination then do it like a local. Tbilisi have many high vibe spots hidden in the plain sight which is unknown for most of the tourists. But hardcore travelers are another breed, they will sniff every nooks and corner for a new experience. We were also lucky to be in such a happening place in Tbilisi called “Fabrika”. The ambiance of that place itself will bring some positivity to you. A place we really enjoyed spending our night.

A soviet sewing factory is renovated into a multi-functional urban space with lots of bars, pubs, restaurants, shops and even one of the biggest hostel in the area. A place you never want to miss. The creativity there will blow your mind away. Graffiti on the wall, using old cable drums and pallet boxes for some tables and chairs and the energy of the young people around really makes this place an enjoyable one.

A couple of drinks and food from there will mark it as a day. Thanks to our friend Erik for taking us there.

It’s a place to enjoy the night in your styles whether it’s just with food and drinks, a bit of socializing, a game of Pool or even hitting the dance floor of a night club there.

Getting there – Easy way to reach there is to get a metro to Marjanishvili station and head towards Kote Marjanshville st and then to Egnate Ninoshvili st.  A 600m walk will take you there

Tip: Even though its 600 m only your chances to get lost are high as the streets are very narrow and not well lit. So don’t hesitate to take help from a local for the direction.

All looks fine, but when?

Georgian winters are Cold and snowy, so a night walk is not recommended during all the seasons.

Best time to do it?

June to August is the best time to enjoy all the activities as the lowest temperature is from 18oC to 20oC only (64 to 68- degree Fahrenheit).

If you can enjoy a little cold weather at night especially if you are coming from a comparatively hot country then May to October can be considered. Lowest temperatures during this time are from 8oC to  11oC (46 to 52-degree Fahrenheit).

Off season ?

November to March is not recommended for outdoor activities in the night as its almost freezing outside during that time. Snowfall will result in the shutdown of many activities in the town and also the streets will be slippery.
